On the morning of March 3rd, President and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University Deep Saini, Vice President (Global Engagement) Anja Geitmann, Dean of Faculty of Education Vivek Venkatesh visited Ningbo University, accompanied by leaders of Ningbo Committee of CPPCC and Ningbo Chinese Overseas Friendship Association, and was received by President of Ningbo University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Cai Ronggen and Vice President Dai Shixun.
President Cai Ronggen extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation and introduced Ningbo University in detail of its history, subjects, scientific research cooperation, talent training and international exchanges. He stressed that Ningbo University attaches great importance to international development, actively coordinates the two great initiatives of “bringing in” and “going out”, and improves its educational level by introducing high-quality educational resources and carrying out international research cooperation in especial. As the world-renowned high-level university, McGill University is internationally reputed for its excellent academic performances and strong scientific research capability. Ningbo University looks forward to working with McGill University in the fields of student exchange, faculty visits, and scientific research cooperation. President Cai finally underlined that the visit of President Deep Saini has established initial contacts between the two universities, and looks forward to further opportunities for cooperation.
President Deep Saini expressed gratitude for the welcome, and gave an overview of McGill University, saying that McGill University and Ningbo University have deep bonds and shared values such as commitment to achieving academic excellence, dedication to innovation and belief in the transformative power of education. He pointed out that McGill University, like Ningbo University, attaches great importance to internationalization, as of its more than 40,000 students, over 30% are international students and over 10,000 students are from 150 countries, and more than half of the faculty and staff are from overseas. The two universities enjoy great potential for cooperation and are expectant for enhanced exchanges and more cooperative areas.
At the meeting, the Health Science Center, the Law School, the College of Teacher Education, and the Institute of Plant Virology introduced the development of their respective organizations.
Attending the meeting were also officials of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, the International Office and the Personnel Office.
