Scientific research institutions:

NBU attaches great importance to the management of sci-tech innovation platforms. At present, it houses 23 national, provincial and municipal key laboratories, including 1 national key laboratory cultivation base, 2 key laboratories of MOE, 8 key laboratories of Zhejiang and 12 key laboratories of Ningbo. It is also home to 3 national, ministerial and provincial innovation bases, including 1 international cooperation base of the MOST, 1 innovation and brains introduction base of MOE, and 1 international sci-tech cooperation base of Zhejiang, 1 national achievement promotion agency and 6 national and local engineering centers, including 1 sub-center of the Engineering Center of the MOST, 1 sub-center of the engineering of the SDRC, 1 National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, 1 engineering center of the MOE, 2 engineering centers of Ningbo. There are 3 collaborative innovation centers, including 2 provincial-level ones and 1 municipal-level one, as well as 9 platforms of public services, including 1 sci-tech workstation of MOE, 1 public service platform of the State Oceanic Administration, 1 public service platform of Zhejiang, 6 public service platforms of Ningbo. There are 2 innovation platforms introduced from prestigious institutions and 1 intermediary service agency of Ningbo.

These innovative platforms are expected to improve the technological innovation environment providing important support for the university to strengthen scientific research, carry out technological innovation, promote the transformation of research results and cultivate high-ranking talents.

Research institutes of humanities and social sciences:

NBU attaches great importance to research platforms of humanities and social sciences, actively promotes the construction of social science bases at various levels, and guides various platforms to deepen internal management, accumulate results, and maintain a good momentum.

At present, the university has established a three-tiered system of research platforms, provincial (ministerial), city-level and university-level. Specifically, there are 1 Zhejiang Provincial Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences, 1 Sports and Social Science Research Base of the General Administration of Sport, and 1 Research Base of the China United Front Theory Research Association, 1 research center of the theoretical studies on socialism with Chinese characteristics, 9 research bases of social sciences of Ningbo; 1 professional new-type think tank of Zhejiang Province, 2 new-type think tanks of Zhejiang, 1 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Zhejiang; 2 high-level Innovation Center, 1 University Collaborative Innovation Center of Ningbo; 2 High-level Innovation Teams of Zhejiang-based Universities, 1 cultural innovation team and 6 research centers co-sponsored by Ningbo and CASS.

NBU also actively integrates research resources in the school, and has established 12 NBU research institutes and 21 NBU research centers.
